The Lap of Lights at Silverstone transforms the iconic circuit into a large scale seasonal spectacle, where visitors journey through an immersive display of festive lighting and interactive digital installations.
Behind the scenes ADI were responsible for delivering multiple activations across the vast circuit. From Christmas inflatables and laser displays to large-scale lighting installations, the event relied heavily on LED screens positioned across the site. Some screens acted as wayfinding hubs, guiding visitors and promoting key attractions, while others formed dynamic visual structures such as gantries and tunnels. Most importantly, all content needed to be managed centrally and updated in real time, requiring a fast, stable, and secure network infrastructure.
In an environment with thousands of visitors using mobile devices, wireless networks alone could not guarantee reliable performance. ADI needed a high-bandwidth, low-latency fibre network solution that could integrate with Silverstone’s existing infrastructure, span long distances, and withstand harsh winter conditions.
THE SOLUTION
To meet these demands, ADI partnered with Universal Networks, deploying over 2.5km of ArmourLux 500 Series IP PRO tactical fibre across the circuit. A flexible mix of 50m deployable reels for nearby connections and extended runs of up to 500m enabled reliable connectivity between node points and LED screen locations across the site. This modular approach allowed the team to adapt quickly to the circuit’s scale and layout, ensuring efficient deployment in a live event environment.
At the core of the solution was rugged, deployable fibre built to reliably support temporary outdoor networks:
- IP PRO connectors and couplers provided secure, weatherproof joins, ideal for exposed positions such as gantries and trackside installations
- IP PRO chassis adapters ensured stable rack-mounted connections, eliminating the risk of signal loss from accidental disconnections
- A four-core fibre solution delivered ample capacity for video, audio, and data transmission across multiple systems
Designed for rapid deployment, repeated use, and extreme conditions, the cable proved its resilience during winter installation and derig, even needing to be recovered from frozen puddles on the ground without compromising performance.
“Liz at Universal Networks is knowledgeable, friendly, and always approachable.
It’s like having our own internal fibre department at ADI.”

THE OUTCOME
With a fully integrated fibre optic network for live event production, ADI were able to deliver reliable, real-time control across every activation.
Unlike wireless alternatives, the fibre backbone provided consistent, high-performance connectivity, unaffected by network congestion from thousands of attendees. This enabled:
- Instant content updates from a central control point (MCR)
- Reliable distribution of high-definition video, data, and control signals
- Real-time communication with on-site devices, including processors and digital signage players
The result was a smooth, immersive visitor experience, where lighting, screens, and interactive elements operated in perfect sync across the entire circuit. Beyond performance, the solution delivered operational efficiency. Fast deployment, robust connections, and straightforward derig processes ensured the network could be installed, removed, and reused with minimal downtime — a key requirement for modern live events and touring productions.
