Exploring the Future of Defence Communications First-Hand

Last week, we joined thousands of defence professionals at DSEI UK 2025 in London. For some of our team, it was our very first time attending an event of this scale, and it didn’t disappoint.

Across four busy days, we saw the latest defence technologies up close, experienced the breadth of innovation happening across the sector, and got a real sense of the scale and complexity involved in maintaining a strong defence front. It was an incredible learning experience, offering valuable insight into how different parts of the industry work together, and where things are heading next.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this year’s overarching theme – Preparing the Future Force – was front of mind for everyone. On the stands and in conversations, topics like secure supply chains, digital transformation, and human–machine collaboration kept coming up. The message was clear: defence networks need to be able to adapt quickly to whatever comes next.

Our Reflections on DSEI 2025

If one theme stood out above all, it was adaptability. The pace of change across defence is rapid, and communications infrastructure has to keep up. Walking the halls at DSEI made it clear that solutions need to be fast to deploy, resilient under pressure, and ready to scale, wherever the mission takes them.

Conversations That Sparked Ideas

Some of our most memorable moments came not just from the technology on display, but from the people we met along the way. From long-standing partners to brand new connections, these conversations gave us fresh perspectives and exciting opportunities to collaborate.

We talked about everything from rugged, redeployable fibre solutions for the harshest conditions to the challenge of modernising existing infrastructure for greater resilience. And what struck us was that these weren’t just about solving today’s problems, they were about preparing for tomorrow’s.

As our founder Eddie said: “It was great to drop by the OCC stand at DSEI and finally put faces to names. I’ve been emailing the US team for years, so meeting them in person was a real highlight.”

Moments like this summed up what DSEI is all about: connecting people, sparking ideas, and laying the groundwork for what comes next.

Looking Ahead

We left DSEI feeling inspired; by the innovation we saw, the conversations we had, and the opportunities for collaboration. More than anything, it gave us a bigger-picture perspective on where the industry is heading, and how Universal Networks can continue supporting defence organisations with reliable, field-proven communications.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to connect with us during the week. If we didn’t get the chance to meet in person, we’d still love to carry on the conversation — get in touch with our team today.
