Role Title: Cable Assembly Technician
Location: Office based in Hungerford, Berkshire. Onsite parking is available as well as good public transport links.
Salary: £22-29k (negotiable, depending on experience)

As a Cable Assembly Technician at Universal Networks, you’ll be hands-on from day one, joining a friendly, supportive team that builds specialist fibre optic and copper cable assemblies for a range of industries including entertainment, defence, oil and gas, and more.
You don’t need to be an expert when you join — full training will be provided to help you succeed in this exciting and fast-paced role. What matters most is your positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a genuine pride in doing the job well.
What you’ll be doing:
- Cable Assembly and Testing: Prepare, terminate, and test fibre optic and copper cable assemblies, working to high-quality standards and tight deadlines.
- Technical Work: Read and understand technical drawings and work orders; identify cables, connectors, and assembly components; operate production machinery.
- Quality Assurance: Use microscopes and test equipment (including OTDR, Light Source & Power Meters) to inspect, diagnose faults and verify cable performance.
- Production Support: Pick assembly components; maintain accurate stock and production records.
- Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues and managers, supporting each other to deliver outstanding results.

- 24 days annual leave (increasing to 29 with length of service) plus bank holidays

- Good dexterity and concentration, with the ability to meet the physical demands of the role
- Previous experience in production assembly, fibre optic termination, or cable assembly is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel is beneficial
- Ideally, 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths
