De La Rue has many facilities selling and supporting their cash handling products around the globe. Arbok Zao (now De La Rue CIS) required a new industry standard data cable installation in Sergiev Posad which is approximately 100km north of Moscow. Although a relatively small site, Arbok Zao needed a company they could trust and sought advice from their UK IT support team in Basingstoke. Glen Downes of De La Rue UK recommended using Universal Networks as we had completed numerous cabling installations for Glen at another organisation.
Due to the distance involved a site survey was out of the question, so our initial quotation was based purely on information and photographs provided by the client.
Universal installed a Category 5E structured cabling system over two floors in what turned out to be an older style concrete building with extremely thick walls, no ceiling void or floor boxes. Needless to say this presented a challenge and compartment trunking had to be installed around the outside walls on both floors to accommodate the cabling. A communications cabinet was centrally located and a 100 pair voice cable connected to a Panasonic telephone switch.
Time was very much of the essence and despite an initial delay with Russian Customs; finally the cabling materials were released. It was all hands to the pump to complete the installation before the arrival of the desktops, servers and communications kit. Needless to say, despite difficult circumstances and the additional logistical organisation required the job was completed on time and most importantly to the customer's satisfaction.
Glen Downes said ‘This was a difficult project to manage and to meet the demanding timescales I required a team that I could trust to deliver the site infrastructure on time and budget. I was amazed how the Universal team adapted to the needs of the project and overcome any logistical issues quickly. Despite the challenges Universal Networks did a fantastic job. The team worked extremely hard to deliver our requirements and were prepared to go the extra mile, and in our case they had to go more than a few extra miles! The site is very proud of their new network which was implemented in exceptional circumstances to the highest standards of quality and professionalism - their service is second to none'.
