Neutrik Introduces the OpticalCON MTP Cable and Chassis Connector

Neutrik have announced a 12 channel version of their opticalCON deployable cabling solution. Using the same size shell as used in the 2 and 4 core version, offering 12 fibres in such a compact assembly is quite an achievement. The secret is using the very compact 12 way MTP/MPO connector, usually seen in high density, high performance data centre installations. As with the other variants, the fibres are protected from dust and water by spring loaded shutter, and the assembly is protected to IP65 when mated.

Who Needs the Pied Piper?

Rats have been in the news last week after pesky rattus norvegicus chewed through Virgin Media fibre optics causing an outage in East Scotland. The sharp toothed little critters even came back for more fibre optic goodness causing a secondary outage!

It’s a common misconception that rats actually eat the cables, instead they use the insulation to line their nests or chew it to wear down their constantly growing teeth. There are several ways to protect cables against rodents
